Something you may not know about Pat and I… Pat grew up in Sarasota, FL and moved back to New Jersey after college (we met in the Garden State when I was one year out of school). It’s always nice to go back to his roots and spend time with our family and friends that live in Florida. We recently spent two weeks in Sarasota back in October and had such an incredible time. I knew that I wanted to do a travel diary about our time there, and I’m finally (5 months later) getting around to it. Not going to lie, reliving this trip makes me want to do it all over again. Side note, we drove from NJ > FL and I have to say I don’t think I’d be down to do that ever again. Also, when I say “we,” I mean Pat did all the driving. BUT, I did get a cute shot in our trunk before we left. Luggage is c/o eBags and I absolutely love this rose gold, hard-case piece!
When we go to Florida we typically stay with one of Pat’s family members, however there are a bunch of nearby hotels that are so gorgeous. Here are the three that I would recommend.
The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota
Stunning hotel with great ambience
The Westin, Sarasota
Brand new, rooftop perfect for sunset drinks
The Art Ovation (Autograph Marriott)
Rooftop pool with great food and drinks
AirB&B is of course always an option as well. Linking to one of our good friends’ home which they rent out HERE (feel free to reach out directly to me with any questions).
Being a foodie from New York, we of course seek out the best restaurants no matter what state we’re in. Surprisingly, Sarasota does more than just seafood, really well. Below are some of our favorite spots to frequent!
Hyde Park Steak House
Amazing steak, oysters, pretzel bread
My favorite Italian food in the area
Michael’s On East
Wine Bar & restaurant + private event space
Get “The Surfer” (promise it’s epic)
Ophelia’s on the Bay
Great seafood with a view
-Spend the day at Siesta Key Beach
-Rent a boat for the day in the Key
-Walk around downtown for shopping,
dinner, night life and dessert
-Walk around St. Armand’s Circle
-Golf at a local Country Club
-Hang by the pool at your hotel rooftop
-Catch a sunset on the beach for the most gorgeous photos
