I’ve been in Georgia for a little over a month now, and although I’m absolutely LOVING the warm weather, I think the heat (combined with lots of sweat), is not necessarily doing wonders for my skin (+ my body is most likely still going through an adjustment period).
So, I’ve been trying to be really good about washing my face daily (morning and night), but especially after I go to the gym, or on a long walk outside. Even after following a strict routine, my skin is definitely breaking out wayyyy more than I was used to in the Northeast – and when it’s ‘that time of the month’ – forget about it!!!
READY FOR SOME UP-CLOSE AND VERY PERSONAL [UNEDITED] PHOTOS?
If you allow me to be vein for a minute – I feel REALLY insecure when my skin looks like crap.
SOOO… I immediately started gathering up all of my really strong skin care products in my collection – but decided that I needed a full overhaul and pulled together a whole new regiment (with the help of my friends over at Murad). Here are some of my must-have’s for stubborn Summer skin!
1. First and foremost, a consistent regiment and routine
Hold yourself accountable, even if you’re feeling too tired. Self-care is IMPORTANT
2. Murad Time Release Acne Cleanser
Contains 0.5% salicylic acid which has really helped to keep my pores clean (I feel gross when my pores feel clogged). Use this twice a day (AM & PM), unless your skin starts to get too dry (noticeably flakey). I started off using this twice a day, and then scaled back to once a day
4. Murad InvisiScar Resurfacing Treatment
Has been a life-saver for clearing up the unfortunate scarring that comes along with cystic acne that I’ve been suffering from. Use this twice a day (AM & PM) and you’ll start to see results quickly
5. Kate Somerville Anti-Bac Clearing Lotion
Have been using this product for 2+ years and have repurchased again and again. This product contains benzoyl peroxide and helps to keep your skin status quo (even if you skin is in a good place, you should use something like this to maintain)
6.) Tarte Blemish Bully
Contains 1.5% salicylic acid. My favorite for spot treatments – I put this on only at night as my last step
7.) Acne Spot Dots
These are one of my favorite new addictions from the drug store!! I use these to cover nasty blemishes to protect my skin and the open wounds that are blemishes. I have actually worn these out of the house (husband = slightly embarrassed by this – lol), BUT honestly, they’re not super noticeable unless someone is examining your face up-close (not sure how often this happens to you but for me rarely – lol). Personally, I think a big, ugly, red dot is much more distracting (but to each their own)
**IMPORTANT: I have only found success with the exact brand I have linked here [have never tried any other brands, but I have friends that have and say they don’t work]. With this specific brand, when I use them overnight, I typically wake up with some sort of film layer on the top which indicates that fluid was slowly extracted overnight
8.) Naturally Serious Peel Pads
These are great to brighten your skin first thing in the AM! They also help to remove and extract blackheads, and leftover residue on your face from the night before
